"Family Day is about gratitude" - Dhiraj Rajaram, Founder and CEO of Mu Sigma
Mu Sigma, the world's largest pure play analytics and decision sciences organization, believes in staying grounded and strong by expressing gratitude to the people who have contributed towards building the future of the organization. We are not talking about the employees here, but about their parents and extended families, who have played a significant role in their decision making to trust Mu Sigma to build their future.

Family Day is one of the biggest events in Mu Sigma's social calendar. Every month, families of employees are invited to the Bangalore office to be a part of this day, giving Mu Sigma an opportunity to express gratitude towards them. During the visit, families are given a feel of the ecosystem, explained the beliefs which are the founding pillars of Mu Sigma and given an experience of life at work.
The day is planned meticulously and with a lot of heart, wherein each section is thoughtfully crafted and executed to create a lasting impression in the minds of families and employees alike. Though the day is packed with activities, the actual experience starts much before, with personal invites being sent to the families. On arrival at the office, a warm welcome is extended by the organizing team, followed by a message from the Founder, and an interaction with members from the Mu Sigma Leadership.
The employees are encouraged to introduce their families with a personal touch, acting as an icebreaker for the families to open up on how they feel about Mu Sigma. It is surprising to note how, almost always, the parents' words resonate with the founder's ideals and views, some of them being "I owe Mu Sigma. It has changed my son from being irresponsible and irregular to who he is now," "A teacher always learns, and I learnt a lot today," and "If you want a career in the global world, you will need to interact with clients directly."
A guided tour around the office space comprises of an Art Walk that shows them around the walls and spaces adorned with Mu Sigma's key concepts and philosophies, followed by the Usability & Visualization (UV) lab and the Innovation & Development (I&D) lab. So far, families have unanimously expressed that the I&D lab has been the most interesting part of the office, where they can understand and experience how some of the hard-to-get concepts their children work on translate into reality, coming alive with robots, virtual reality, emotion detection, drones and other in-house developments.
The families are treated to a traditional nine-course authentic South Indian lunch, served by the employees themselves as a gesture of thanks, for all the support they have received from their parents and families so far. Families also spend some time with the teammates in their respective bays to get an idea of who their children work with and the environment they work in. The team members take ownership and put up a good show to explain their work to the families in as much detail as they want to know. An entertaining performance or two are staged by one of the co-curricular clubs (music, dance, drama, etc.) towards the end of the day, leaving them on a high note. As a parting gift, the team bids a sweet adieu to each of the families with a memoir capturing a moment of each employee with his/her family, framed alongside a verse from Kahlil Gibran.
A typical Family Day sees about 70 people on average, from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds, travelling from far and wide to be there. This day is a true celebration of the very diversity that makes Mu Sigma a company with an interdisciplinary perspective. While the families leave with satisfied smiles and appreciative notes, the organization is enriched all the more as a result of the interactions with them.
