Through Agastya's traveling labs, more than 180,000 students have benefited from hands-on science models, the result of nearly $200,000 in grant funds bestowed from the MoneyGram. The mobile science labs have travelled to 30 schools in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar to provide hands-on science experience for underprivileged students.
"It's truly inspiring to witness firsthand what Agastya Foundation has achieved over the course of our three-year collaboration. These innovative vehicles are paving their way to rural and semi-urban regions across India to offer the transformative power of education to some of the most remote and under-privileged communities. We are proud to join our efforts with an extraordinary educational pioneer, to inspire minds and improve lives of communities that need this little spark to thrive," said Alex Holmes, MoneyGram's chief executive officer.
MoneyGram representatives bestowed the fourth-year grant funds to Agastya during the celebratory event, which was held today at the Mahatma Gandhi Vidya Mandir school, in the vicinity of Government Colony in Bandra East, Mumbai. Attendees included Grant Lines, chief revenue officer, AMEAP, Russia and CIS; Kaushik Roy, head of Middle East and South Asia; and Alex Holmes. Holmes presented the $60,000 check to Ramji Raghavan, founder of the Agastya International Foundation.
"Peer-to-peer learning instills confidence, improves communication, and helps students understand complex scientific methods in a more agile way. As we run one of the largest hands-on science education programs for economically disadvantaged students, it becomes crucial for us to introduce unique ways to nurture creativity and boost confidence. We hope that peer-to- peer teachers will catalyze a movement across India. Support from partners like MoneyGram Foundation is critical to foster a new generation of tinkerers and innovators in the country," said Ramji Raghavan, founder and chairman of the Agastya International Foundation.
