As part of this project, Megha Gas proposes to lay 800-inch kilometres of pipelines (Gas pipelines are measured in inch kilometres) in Khammam and Kothagudem districts. Similarly, Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Jayashankar Bhupalapalli, Mahbubabad and Jangaon districts would necessitate 800-inch kilometres, and Nalgonda, Suryapet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts would require 1,500 inch kilometres of pipelines. In a similar fashion, the ten districts would necessitate arranging 80 filling stations. This Project would ensure supply of gas to one lakh families of Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Jayashankar Bhupalapalli, Mahbubabad and Jangaon districts, another 1 lakh families of Kothagudem unit, and 3.5 lakh families of Nalgonda, Suryapet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri Unit. This Project would draw the Gas from Trunk Line Network and would be completed in eight years.
While the Central Govt. has invited bids for the supply of gas to the families in the 86 regions of the country, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Commission has revealed that 400 bids have been submitted and 70,000 crores of investment are expected. The Govt. has invited these bids to supply cooking gas to 22 states in the country along with 174 districts in the Union Territories. The Govt.'s aim is to supply gas through City Gas Distribution (CGD) to at least half the population in the 640 districts of the country. It must be noted that already 36 organizations are supplying gas to 91 regions through a 16,500 kilometres pipeline to 42 lakh families and 33,000 industries and business firms. This network is accessible to 19% of the country's population. Megha Gas is already providing its services in Agiripalli and Kanuru of Krishna District, as well as Tumkur and Belgauvi in Karnataka.
Note: The volume of gas that can be transported in a pipeline depends on two main factors: the pipeline operating pressure and pipe diameter. The gas industry uses an interesting unit to measure pipeline costs, dollars per inch per kilometre ($/in.-km), measuring the cost of 1-in.
