NEW DELHI, February 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --

In essence the design of the logo is based on three concepts - global outreach, evolving and deepening of learning and spreading of knowledge.
Pioneering as one of the largest after-school Maths and English enrichment programs globally, Kumon has expanded across different cities in India and Sri Lanka. While it is present in all the major Indian metros, Kumon's focus now is more on the Indian hinterland, by targeting tier 2 and tier 3 cities. 2017 marked Kumon's entry into 4 new Indian cities - Kochi, Trichy, Goa and Jaipur. By 'broadening and deepening', Kumon has seen a rapid growth specifically in the last 3 years, which it aims to sustain.
Commenting on this occasion, Mr. Takaya Kitanishi, Managing Director, Kumon India Education says, "2018 marks the 60th anniversary of Kumon globally, while in India we are presently in the 13th year of our operations. Going forward, Kumon will try to be rooted in the Indian society and contribute to developing children's ability and willingness to learn, for many more years to come. Through the Kumon method, we would like as many children as possible to experience the joy of learning Math and English and to find their special potential."
The Kumon Method is aimed at building up the basic academic skills of reading, writing, and Maths regardless of a student's age and ability. It is an individualised study method that enables students to become self-learners with occasional guidance from instructors. Therefore, the Kumon Method has been welcomed into communities around the world with widely differing cultures, values, and educational systems.
Any instructor willing to be a part of Kumon Franchise network has to go through orientations followed by a 3-week training that helps them understand the Kumon method, its purpose and the 'worksheets' - which is core to Kumon. Internally, Kumon also conducts multiple training sessions, seminars and forums for instructors, to help them keep abreast with any changes in the worksheets and course material as well as discuss case studies of model centre/students. This makes sure that they are following the right course and help children benefit from one unique methodology followed across the globe.
The Kumon method started in 1954, when Toru Kumon, a mathematics teacher wanted his son, Takeshi Kumon, then in grade 2, to reach high school materials as soon as possible so that he would have time to pursue his other interests. He wrote his own worksheets, and had his son do them as homework every day. Toru Kumon would then mark the worksheets and Takeshi Kumon would have to do the corrections, as well as the new worksheet assigned, the following day. Using this method, Toru Kumon found that his son could study high school materials by the time he was in grade 6.
Toru Kumon wanted more children to benefit from this method and study advance materials. Hence in 1958, Kumon was officially incorporated in Osaka, Japan. Since then, Kumon has spread to 50 countries around the world with more than 4 million students.
