Kavalan Named Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2017 Asian Whisky of the Year
Taiwan whiskymaker scores triple recognition from world's leading whisky guide
TAIPEI, Taiwan, Oct. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2017 has named Kavalan "Asian Whisky of the Year" for its Solist Moscatel Sherry Single Cask Strength, as part of about 4,600 whiskies rated in the latest 25th edition.
Kavalan's Moscatel has proven popular this year, scooping gold at the World Whiskies Awards, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the International Spirits Challenge, and the International Review of Spirits.
The 2017 Whisky Bible result makes it a hat trick for Kavalan, which has won the award twice previously in 2014 for its Podium and in 2015 for the Kavalan Classic Single Malt.
Kavalan founder Mr YT Lee said his master blender, Ian Chang, describes Moscatel as "fruit jams on brownie cake."
"The nose on the Moscatel is floral, rich in honey and sweets, has a touch of toffee and caramel. On the palate, it's dry fruit and nutty flavours. We'd describe it as creamy, silky smooth buttery with chocolate notes," said Mr Lee.
Previously, Kavalan collected the 2015 "World's Best Single Malt Whisky from the prestigious World Whiskies Awards (WWA) for its Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique and the 2016 "World's Best Single Cask Single Malt Whisky" for its Solist Amontillado Sherry Single Cask Strength.
