Dr. Alan H. Yang, the Executive Director of CSEAS NCCU, said that the signing of MoU with CAPSS of O.P. Jindal Global University is a great honour. The MoU initiates opportunities to further cooperation with a prestigious higher education institution in India. "We look forward to strengthening bilateral collaboration in the future with CAPSS and JGU, and the future goals of the CSEAS-CAPSS coalition include more international publications and establishing a transnational research framework," said Dr. Yang.
Speaking on the signing of the MoU in Taipei, Taiwan Professor C Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor O.P. Jindal Global University said, "We have had the opportunity to partner with leading institutions across the globe, but this partnership with Chengchi University is truly special. Not only will it help set up progressive global exchange and study opportunities for students and faculty of both institutions, but also help create a framework of economic and social progress that actively promotes excellence, and equality of opportunity for the youth in the Asia-Pacific region."
Dr. Kumar further highlighted, "There is a dire need for institutions in the region to participate and build a stronger base for policymaking in the higher education sector in their respective countries." He called for institutions with similar goals to partner and contribute to this vision.
Dr. Roger Chi-feng Liu, Director CAPSS, expressed great excitement and hope on the establishment of the partnership between the two vibrant research institutions of Taiwan and India. Currently, the Taiwanese government is pushing for closer bilateral ties with ASEAN and SAARC countries under the new national strategy 'New Southbound Policy,' as there is a growing interest and need in Taiwan to strengthen the link to Southeast Asia and South Asia. "There will be no better timing than now for India to connect to Taiwan and East Asia," said Dr. Liu.
On the occasion of the signing of this MoU, Dr. Sreeram Chaulia, the Dean of JSIA, said, "Taiwan is growing in significance as India's foreign policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given maximum emphasis on 'Act East' policy and economic diplomacy. Taiwanese companies are investing large sums in India and it is necessary for intellectual level coordination to also grow between our two countries to face the geopolitical challenges in Asia. This agreement between Jindal and NCCU is an important step in that direction."
CSEAS is a newly established research institution with the focus on SE Asia co-founded by National Chengchi University (NCCU) and the Center for Southeast Asia Studies of Kyoto University, Japan. CSEAS NCCU began to function in February 2016. National Chengchi University is among the top universities in Taiwan with a focus on social sciences, finance and economics and law. In 2016, NCCU is among the top 100 universities in politics and international studies on the QS Rankings.
