GURUGRAM, India, June 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --
Indus Towers, India's largest telecom tower company, today organized a plantation drive on the 25,000 sq. ft. land sanctioned by Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), at DLF Cyber City. The site is adjacent to its corporate office (near Rapid Metro pillar 93A and 93B) where the leadership team of the company, accompanied by other employees planted 100 saplings to support the cause of environment preservation and the need to shift to a low carbon economy on World Environment Day today. Since the adoption of the Green Belt in 2016, Indus Towers has already planted over 150 trees, along with thousands of plants and bushes.

Indus Towers believes that World Environment Day is a great day for everyone to take ownership of the environment and to actively engage in the protection of our Earth. In the past, the company has resonated its focus on the environment initiatives and was in the news for its 'Green Sites' initiative which has helped reduce the diesel consumption by its towers by almost 50% thereby reducing dependency on fuel consumption. The company's offices have installed LED lights with sensors in meeting rooms and work station areas that switch off automatically when not in use. There are regular e-waste collection drives in all its offices for proper waste disposal and donation of old laptops to NGOs so that they can be re-used. Several of its offices in India promote cycling to work which helps save fuel, energy and reduces the carbon footprint.
Commenting on the occasion, Shankar Iyer, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Indus Towers, said, "It is our commitment towards environment that has enabled us to stay focused on our mission towards sustainability and responsible citizenship. Our initiatives in the past like Green sites have also resulted in reducing carbon emissions equivalent to planting millions of trees. This initiative to create a green belt in Gurugram is a reiteration of our commitment to ensure a safe and healthy environment."
Collaborating with the Gurugram authorities in the past, Indus Towers has undertaken various initiatives to protect the environment and ensure safety and health of all its stakeholders - whether its employees, associates or society. To promote greener public transport option among its employees, Indus Towers recently partnered with Rapid Metro Gurugram. In March 2016, the company was associated with Gurugram Traffic Police to ensure road safety by disbursing 4,000 traffic cones and partnered with them for Car Free day in 2015.
Indus Towers has always focused on reducing carbon emissions and related energy costs. The green effort has been recognized in the international arena and Indus has won two GSMA Green Mobile Awards in the last couple of years.
