Chairman and Founder of OneYearMBA.co.in, Mr. Shikhar Mohan opined in his keynote address, "The term 'Executive Education' is being misconstrued in the country, and perhaps, one may look at modifying the nomenclature of the one-year full-time MBA." He further emphasised that one-year MBA programmes need a single nomenclature across B-schools. He also talked about the popularity of the one-year full-time MBAs and mentioned that world's number one MBA programme as per the FT ranking is the one-year MBA of INSEAD.
The event also conducted panel discussions on the subject matter. The panel members amongst others, comprised National Sales Training Manager, Mars Wrigley Confectionery Company, Mr. Anand K Chaturvedi; Head HR (North and East), Federal Express, Ms. Kirti Raj Manocha; General Manager (HR), Samsung, Mr. Arindam Lahiri; Managing Director, Leadership Matters, Mr. Anand Pillai; Vice President (HR), Global Logic India, Ms. Neeru Mehta; Director General, National HRD Network National Secretariat, Mr. Dhananjay Singh; Associate Programme Chairperson, PGDM Executive, IMT Ghaziabad, Dr. Sapna Popli; and Head External Relations, IMT Ghaziabad, Ms. Sonali Mehra.
Outlining the challenges of lateral hiring, Ms. Kriti Manchanda talked about the high expectations of the lateral hires and hence, the right fit becoming a challenge. To overcome the challenge, Mr. Arindam Lahiri suggested that the institutes should have a common placement committee (for two-year and one-year MBAs). Supporting the thoughts, Mr. Anand Chaturvedi highlighted the need for the industry in India to start looking at a Middle Management Hiring Programme from one-year MBAs, besides the Management Trainee programme that most of them usually have.
Further, Mr. Anand Pillai charted as to how the companies while doing the lateral hiring, consider the strong line between 'work experience' and 'relevant work experience'. He also said that the major challenge in lateral hiring is the cultural fitment of the personnel. However, according to Ms. Neeru Mehta, the one-year MBA students have the edge over the two-year students, as they are experienced; and hence, emphasis on right fitment should be done more seriously in the case of lateral hires.
