Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yogesh Mudras, Acting Managing Director, UBM India, said "The overwhelming industry response towards the Gem & Jewellery India International Exhibition (GJIIE) 2015, further validates the industry need for such a large trade platform to tap the potential of South India's market, for both exhibitors and visitors. GJIIE Chennai, co-hosted with MJDMA, is one of the five successful pan India jewellery shows, held annually by UBM India."
GJIIE 2015 Chennai saw participation from 300 exhibitors, as compared to 265 in 2014. These exhibitors included retailers, artisans and wholesalers from all over India and international markets that showcased their product offerings ranging from gold, diamonds, pearls, gem stones, silver and allied machinery products. In addition to Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and other potential II and III tier cities in India, the exhibition had representation from Turkey, Dubai, Hong Kong and Thailand thus substantiating the international reach and presence of GJIIE 2015.
GJIIE 2015 also had the Machinery Section (a GJIIE first), which was hosted in association with MSME and BIS. This section had over 80 machinery manufacturer exhibitors and saw participation from Germany, Italy and Japan in addition to local counterparts. The machinery section also conducted workshops and seminars during the three days. The GJIIE Diamond Pavilion, another unique pavilion, featured the latest designs in diamond jewellery. The pavilion, which had 80 exhibitors this year, saw participation by leading players from Gujarat, Mumbai, Hong Kong amongst others, who showcased their creations to large delegations from regions such as Trichy, Madurai and Pondicherry.
Other event highlights included buyer-seller meets, luxury pavilions, technical seminars and the fashion show night.
As part of GJIIE 2015, the Golden Hand 'Kaarigar' Awards ceremony interspersed with the Jewellery Fashion Show was attended by industry veterans and stalwarts, alike. Srishti Rana, Miss Asia Pacific World 2013; Alankrita Sahai, Miss Diva Earth 2014; Jhataleka Malhotra, Femina Miss India International 2014 and Asha Bhat, Miss Supranational 2014 at Krynica-Zdrój, Poland, along with other models 'set the ramp on fire' as they walked donning the stunning ornaments.
The industry lauded UBM India's initiative of honouring the unspoken heroes of the jewellery trade - the traditional 'kaarigars' who painstakingly create beautiful pieces through their craftsmanship.
The following were adjudged the winners by the jury of the Golden Hand 'Kaarigar' Awards:
