Frost & Sullivan Commends FELUWA's Groundbreaking MULTISAFE® Double Hose-Diaphragm Pump for Efficiently Handling Liquid Flows in the Mining Industry
The hermetic sealing enabled by FELUWA pumps makes them well suited to handle aggressive and abrasive solids-carrying media, even at high viscosity
LONDON, Sept. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of diaphragm pumps in the mining industry, Frost & Sullivan recognizes FELUWA Pumpen GmbH with the 2017 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Line Strategy Leadership. The outstanding quality of FELUWA's diaphragm pumps underlines its remarkable engineering capability, adoption of best practices, and commitment to providing best-in-class services to the global mining industry. Its MULTISAFE® double hose-diaphragm pump has established FELUWA as a market leader and the company constantly develops its brand by expanding its corporate identity across the globe, from the United States to Australia.

The key issues faced by traditional diaphragm manufacturers when handling highly viscous and semi-solid liquids include uneven fluid distribution, the settling of liquids at the bottom of the pump, and high wear and tear of the process equipment due to the pump's parts coming in contact with the liquid. FELUWA resolves these challenges with the MULTISAFE® pump, as its redundant double hose-diaphragm system hermetically separates the fluid that is being conveyed from the hydraulic system from the moving parts of the pump. The fluid is allowed to flow through a linear pathway via the hose-diaphragm and comes in contact with just the inner hose-diaphragm and check valves. It is the only oscillating displacement pumping system that is completely sealed, leak-proof, and has a double-sealed fluid chamber that shields it from the outside environment.
"FELUWA's array of pumping products and accessories are engineered to plug the gaps in traditional pumps' designs without compromising the quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the equipment," said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Shilpa M. Ramachandran. "In an industry with limited product differentiation, FELUWA stands out with its MULTISAFE® pump and optional DownFlow Technology that prevents sedimentation within the pump."
Some of the other key technologies that set the MULTISAFE® pump apart include:
- A great variety of different valve designs and materials to ensure individual adaptation to working conditions. FELUWA check valves are most suited to handle aggressive and/ or abrasive media.
- Numerous options for pulsation dampening from air vessels with or without in-built piston compressors up to automatically adapting hose-diaphragm or diaphragm dampeners for wide pressure ranges, e.g. PULSATROL solution consisting of a hose-diaphragm pulsation dampener and a rolling diaphragm accumulator that are guarded from damage, regardless of system pressure. FELUWA pulsation dampeners are equipped with a nitrogen or gas filled air cushion adapting itself to operating conditions and thus helping to reduce the uniformity coefficient to less than 0.5 % p to p.
- Pump Condition Guard (PCG) – an online diagnostic system which controls the operating data and thus reduces operating and maintenance costs.
- WebGuard, a sophisticated human-machine interface that fully integrates pump diagnostics into industrial control systems; a Web-based service option for it allows continuous monitoring of hose-diaphragms and checks valves, inlet and discharge pressure, flow rate, speed, pulsation, hydraulic oil temperature, lube oil flow, and pressure to improve process efficiency.
FELUWA's attention to detail in the development of its product line showcases its commitment to product reliability, irrespective of the nature of the liquids they pump.
"Another key aspect of FELUWA's solution is that the elastic distortion of the hose-diaphragms is path-controlled and its inherent design enables concentric fluid movement," noted Ramachandran. "The space between the hose-diaphragms is unpressurised and ends in a central transfer point, so that even if one leaks or fails, the monitoring system is automatically activated to protect the pump from damage."
FELUWA analyzes the business climate for the next 5 to 10 years to devise flexible designs and processes that will meet clients' current and future requirements. Its service engineers maintain and deliver the highest standards of quality and technical excellence in its tailor-made solutions, ensuring that all pumps are tested on parameters ranging from drive technology to measuring and regulation technology so that they are ready for immediate use. Additionally, its environment consciousness and responsible handling of natural resources by implementing a certified environmental management system clearly distinguishes it in the mining industry.
