LUDHIANA, India, January 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Makes Significant Commitment to Bridge the Need Gap for Healthcare in the State as 260 Bed Facility Opens for Service
Fortis Healthcare Limited (Fortis), India's largest and fastest growing private healthcare player, today launched its state of the art, 260 bed green-field hospital in Ludhiana. The multi super-specialty facility underscores the significant commitment by Fortis to bridge the gap for quality healthcare services in the region. Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Honorable, Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab inaugurated the hospital.
Dedicating the facility to the service of patients, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, said, "We are happy to see Fortis strengthening its commitment to Punjab by bringing world class infrastructure and medical care to Ludhiana. We applaud their efforts and wish them success in taking healthcare to the people and in further elevating the quality of healthcare in the region."
At a separate ceremony, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal also laid the foundation stone for Fortis La Femme, yet another green-field facility that will come up in the city, by 2016. Located on the Mall Road, this will be a 100 bed Centre for Women, dedicated to meet their medical needs through various stages of their life.
Fortis has committed significant investments in creating capacity of over 1,000 beds in Punjab. These include the newly commissioned hospital in Ludhiana; existing facilities in Mohali and Amritsar; the soon to be launched Fortis Cancer Institute in Mohali and the green-field project, Fortis La Femme in Ludhiana.
Mr Malvinder Mohan Singh and Mr Shivinder Mohan Singh, Executive Chairman and Executive Vice Chairman, Fortis Healthcare Limited, said, "With strong roots in Punjab, Fortis began its journey with the first hospital in Mohali. Today, we consider it our privilege to launch yet another state-of-the-art healthcare facility in Punjab that will set a new benchmark for medical care in the region. Access to healthcare remains a challenge and we are committed to improving the quality of healthcare by expanding our footprint further, in a manner that more and more people continue to benefit from it."
Easily accessible on the Chandigarh-Ludhiana Road, near Samrala Chowk, Fortis Ludhiana offers an unprecedented level of medical care and service in the city. While the multi-specialty hospital caters to all disease profiles, it has a special focus on those that are endemic to the region and are underserved.
Of these, a worrying concern is cancer. There are 90 cancer patients for every 1 lakh of population in Punjab, which is higher than the national average. To address the growing need for specialised and quality medical care to treat cancer, Fortis Ludhiana has set up an advanced Centre of Excellence (COE) in Oncology (Medical, Surgical and Radiation therapy). A multi-disciplinary tumour board of experienced super-specialists, a dedicated day care ward for medical chemotherapy patients, Ludhiana's only Time-of-Flight PET/CT scanner and 24x7 critical care services for critically-ill cancer patients are amongst the unique offerings that set this centre apart from existing facilities in the region.
Other Centres of Excellence (COE's) at Fortis Ludhiana include Orthopaedics (for bone diseases and joint replacements), emergency, trauma and critical care and cardiology (for heart). Additional COE's in the near future will include Renal Sciences (kidney related diseases) and Neuro Sciences (diseases concerning the brain and nervous system).
The hospital has a team of experienced and knowledgeable clinicians who have previously worked at some of the finest institutions in the country and overseas. They will bring to bear a multi-disciplinary approach to clinical diagnosis, interventions and treatment, effectively raising the bar for medical care in the region. Senior doctors and experienced physicians at the hospital include: Dr Jagdev Singh Sekhon (Director - Onco Sciences), Dr Parveen Kaur (Sr. Consultant - Radiation Oncology), Dr Sanjeev Mahajan (Director - Orthopedics, Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine), Dr Nitin Shanker Behl (Senior Consultant & HOD - Gastroenterology), Dr Nitin Sethi ( Consultant - Plastic Surgery), Dr Neeraj K Goyal (Senior Consultant - Urology), Dr Vishnu Gupta (Senior Consultant - Neuro Surgery), Dr Vinay Singhal (Senior Consultant & HOD - Critical Care) and Dr S N Mohanty (Additional Director - Anesthesia). The Obstetrics and Gynecology team comprises of Dr Vaneet Kaur (Senior Consultant & HOD), Dr Poonam Rastogi (Senior Consultant) and Dr Ashwani Singhal (Senior Consultant & HOD - Neonatology). Dr Harish Matta (Senior Consultant & HOD - General Surgery), Dr Karamvir Goyal (Senior Consultant & HOD - Internal Medicine), Dr Pankaj Sihag (Senior Consultant & HOD - Gastro Intestinal Surgery), Dr Amit Gupta (Consultant - Pulmonology & Critical Care) and Dr Prashant Puri (Head - Emergency) as part of the premier team.
The hospital will follow internationally proven quality protocols and processes for the management of medical and surgical cases. Apart from the level of comprehensive care, the hospital will also offer 24x7 emergency services. Close to 40% of its beds are dedicated to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) to handle complex and critical cases. Fortis Ludhiana is among the few facilities in Punjab to offer comprehensive cancer treatment. Some of its advanced technologies include; LINAC, MRI, Time-of-Flight PET/CT, for precision radio-surgery, BMD and Digital Mammography. Specialists use experience-based algorithms to facilitate early diagnosis vital in the containment and treatment of the disease.
