Fastest Broadband for ASEAN Launched in Cyberjaya
CYBERJAYA, Malaysia, April 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Global Technology Hub of Malaysia, Cyberjaya today witnessed the inaugural launch of the region's fastest IPv6 broadband technology that provides internet speed of up to 1,000 Mbps or 1Gbps.
Launched by Senator Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Salleh Said Keruak, Minister of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia, this launch earmarks the country to be amongst the few in the world and the first in ASEAN to be wired with such technology.
Made possible by the widest coverage of fibre optic infrastructure that has been laid by Setia Haruman Technology Sdn Bhd, Cyberjaya is Malaysia's only city that operates on an open-access concept. It is no wonder that Cyberjaya plays host to more than 50 international and 14 local telcos, making it the biggest hub of data centres for Malaysia. This ultra-broadband speed also enables more smart-city solutions, Internet of Things, Big Data Analytics and ICT services to be deployed in Cyberjaya.
According to Farah Mahami Tan Sri Mustapha Kamal, Director of Setia Haruman Technology, the company was formed with the realisation of the needs for an open access telecommunication infrastructure services for service providers to connect to any customers within the city of Cyberjaya. To date, Cyberjaya is the only city in Malaysia that operates on this concept, creating a healthy competition on price and service quality.
Faris Yahaya, Managing Director of Cyberview, Cyberjaya's tech hub enabler said that the enhanced speed will further boost innovation in Cyberjaya, and contribute effectively to the nation's digital economy. "This hub is home to more than 800 companies, the largest concentration of tech community in the country. As a living lab, Cyberjaya is used as an innovation platform in areas such as talent, start-ups, pilots and enterprises, allowing new technologies to be validated in Cyberjaya before widespread adoption in the city and outside. This necessitates the upgrades of existing telecommunication infrastructure."
Cyberjaya was launched in 1997 to realise Malaysia's vision to transform the country into a knowledge based economy. The rapid shift in technology and innovation globally have resulted in a new mandate for Cyberjaya to be elevated as the Global Technology Hub for Malaysia.
