Eventbrite creates equal opportunities for diverse tech talent in India, maintains remote-friendly work policies
Eventbrite India hires diverse tech talent from remote places in the country, offers unusual benefits and pay transparency practices to create more equal opportunities beyond geographical and gender barriers.
HYDERABAD, India, Nov. 7, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Eventbrite, Inc. (NYSE: EB), a global events marketplace that serves event organizers and event goers in nearly 180 countries, has publicly committed to reaching 50:50 gender equality in their workforce in India. As the company continues to expand its staff at its development center in Hyderabad, it also hires talent in remote locations across the country. Recruiting remote talent irrespective of geographical boundaries has helped the company to connect with a wider pool of top-tier talent who bring value and innovation to a technology company operating on a global scale, and has had an impact on its diversity goals. Most recently, Eventbrite was recognized as 'Most Inclusive Organization for Women in Tech' in India by Wequity, a social impact organization that is committed to maximize the potential of women and the organizations that employ them.
Farheen Mehdi, Regional HR Leader at Eventbrite India, says, "Our remote-forward work culture has attracted a good number of women candidates and from the sandwiched generation who appreciate the flexibility to work from wherever and whenever they feel their productive best while being able to take care of their children and elderly dependents without having to relocate to a different city to pursue their tech career. Winning the Wequity award this year has only reassured our commitment to DEI."
Shubhraj Prasad Singh works as a fully-remote Senior Software Engineer at Eventbrite India from Jharkhand. Singh says: "It is very rare for someone to work for a top tech company from Jharkhand (also known as the land of forests). But Eventbrite's inclusive culture and unique benefits that include ongoing reimbursements to set up and work from a full-fledged remote/home office, has made it possible for me to live with my parents and do great things from one of the most rural areas and difficult terrains in the country." "Inspired by Eventbrite's remote-forward culture, my friends and siblings ask how they could also work remotely just like I do," adds Singh.
Pay transparency
At Eventbrite, all employees can check their salary and where it falls in comparison with their peers, helping to highlight wage differences and aiding salary negotiations. Commenting on the company's pay transparency and pay equity practices, Apoorva Gudla, an IIM Lucknow graduate who joined Eventbrite India as a Senior Product Manager, says: "When the hiring team mentioned the salary range for my role without looking into my previous earnings – which is a stereotypical practice in the industry – it reflected the company's commitment to rewarding people based on their forward looking potential regardless of previous compensation or gender."
Shweta Banka, who was with Salesforce and Providence India prior to joining Eventbrite as a Senior Executive Assistant, says, "I had to go to the office five days a week. As a mother of a toddler, I was looking for flexible work options due to the 'Mommy guilt' that most mothers grapple with. Remote-friendly was synonymous with Mother-friendly at Eventbrite and I embraced the opportunity to empower myself to work from where I want and when I work best."
Lavina Chhabra, who works as a Product Designer at Eventbrite India, says, "I was faced with relocating to metros such as Bengaluru and Pune in order to pursue good career opportunities; but now, I feel empowered to work from my home-town, Indore. This helps me to spend time with my mother who is a single parent. She deeply appreciates the flexibility and support that I offer to her via company benefits."
"I used to be stranded for hours in Bengaluru traffic when I was working for my previous employer. With Eventbrite's remote work options, I am now able to use the commute hours for design thinking and innovation at work, become more efficient and stay focused without burning out," says Ashwin Shroff, who is also a Product Designer at Eventbrite India.
"Peers in recruitment tell me that some big names in tech are experiencing huge job offer declines despite competitive pay and benefits. The workforce of this era is willing to undergo a slight compromise in remuneration for flexibility and better work life balance," says Azam Khan, the Senior Talent Development Program Manager at Eventbrite India.
