Mr. Kersi spoke briefly about new sectors included in the Position Paper 2015 such as, Pharma partnered by Novartis, Chemicals partnered by BASF and Tourism partnered by TATA's (Taj Hotels). The 13th Position Paper was released earlier this year in April in Delhi and covers 15 sectors across industries such as; automotive, aviation, alcoholic beverages, banking & financial services, chemicals & petrochemicals, defence, energy (oil & gas and power), FMCG, healthcare, homeland security, ICT, logistics, retail, real estate and telecommunication. The Hon'ble Minister appreciated the role of EBG in enhancing business relations in Maharashtra. "Every government has to take the burden of the earlier one. Maharashtra's GDP contribution is 15% of the National GDP. Exports from Maharashtra account for 30-35%, FDI is 30-32% year-on-year. We have skilled manpower and infrastructure," noted Shri Subhash Desai.
The output of the Sector Committees are reflected in policy proposals outlined in the Position Paper, after which it is distributed to key decision-makers in the Indian government, the European Commission and diplomatic missions of EU countries in India. It aims to strengthen India's position in the World Bank's global "Ease of Doing Business" index and, as a result, promote trade, investment and employment creation on the subcontinent.
On G4S India's association with the position paper, Ms. Rupan Sidhu, Director - Corporate Affairs, G4S India , said, "As the pioneers and leaders in the private security sector in India, it has been our constant endeavour to promote the interests of the sector. To this end, we have forged partnerships like our association with EBG. Through the EBG position paper, we hope to create a successful dialogue between the private security sector and decision makers from Indian government to arrive at solutions for the current requirements of the industry."
"It has been one of the industry demands to open up FDI in this sector. Opening up of FDI will infuse investment into key areas such as training, equipment, technology-led solutions and in research and development. It will also bring international best practises, new ideas and technology into the private security sector. Private security needs to move towards an integration of technology and manned guarding," added Sidhu.
