Nearly eighty MYRAcles from both batches of the graduating class will receive their degrees from the Chief Guest, Dr. Viral V. Acharya, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India and C.V. Starr Professor of Economics at New York University Stern School of Business, USA.
This milestone event will be more memorable for MYRA and MYRAcles as it offers a golden opportunity to listen to an eminent economist and the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India - Dr. Viral V. Acharya.
Dr. Viral V. Acharya:
Dr. Viral V. Acharya is currently the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and is looking after the Monetary Policy and Research cluster of the RBI. Dr. Acharya is the C.V. Starr Professor of Economics in the Department of Finance at New York University Stern School of Business (NYU-Stern). Currently he is on leave to serve as the Deputy Governor at the Reserve Bank of India for a three-year term. He also serves as a member of the advisory council of the RBI Academy and is a member of the Academic Council of the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) since 2014. He is a Fellow of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) since 2014 and Fellow of the Institute of Global Finance, University of New South Wales since 2013.
Dr. Acharya's primary research interest is in the theoretical and empirical analysis of systemic risk of the financial sector, its regulation and its genesis in government-induced distortions, an inquiry that cuts across several other strands of research--credit risk and liquidity risk, their interactions and agency-theoretic foundations, as well as their general equilibrium consequences. Dr. Acharya also is the recipient of the inaugural Banque de France - Toulouse School of Economics Junior Prize in Monetary Economics and Finance, 2011, and recently the 2017 Alexandre Lamfalussy Senior Research Fellowship of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
Dr. Acharya completed Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai in 1995 and Ph.D. in Finance from NYU-Stern in 2001. Before joining Stern, he was at London Business School (2001-2008), headed the Coller Institute of Private Equity at LBS as Academic Director (2007-09) and was a Senior Houblon-Normal Research Fellow at the Bank of England (Summer 2008).
Dr. Acharya has authored many books (along with others) including - Guaranteed to Fail: Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the debacle of the mortgage finance (2011) and Restoring Financial Stability: How to Repair a Failed System (2009).
Dr. Acharya is also a composer and has an album 'yaadon ke silsile' in his name.
