This 'smiley' structure also entered the Guinness World RecordsTM by being the globe's largest mosaic created through arrangement of pet bottles. The initiative was spearheaded by Glenmark, a research led global integrated pharmaceutical company in association with JJ Hospital. The event was attended by leading doctors from across the city, select patients and officials from Glenmark.
A nationwide study conducted by Glenmark across major government hospitals in the country, revealed that there was a significant increase in cases of cough, cold and other illness in these hospitals during the monsoon season. The study showed that there is an approximately 25% rise in such cases during the rainy season. This prompted Glenmark to do its bit for the less-privileged sections of the society by donating its expectorant brand to leading government hospitals, where they come for treatment.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. T P Lahane-Dean of JJ Hospital, Mumbai said, "Every year during monsoon, JJ Hospital witnesses about 25% increase in the number of the patients suffering from cold, cough, influenza and other related symptoms. On the occasion of Doctor's Day, JJ Hospital is happy to be partnering Glenmark in this nationwide initiate of spreading smiles to thousands of less-privileged patients."
Sujesh Vasudevan, Executive Vice President - Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited said, "On the occasion of Doctor's Day, we not only wanted to thank all doctors for their invaluable contribution to the society, but also wanted to do something meaningful for the less-privileged sections of the society.
