Cosmos-Maya Consolidates its Market Leadership in the Indian Kids' Content Space, With the #1 Show, Motu Patlu
MUMBAI, May 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Leads the Animation Market With 5 Shows Currently On Air and 3 More in Production
Singapore and Mumbai based Cosmos-Maya, Asia's leading animation studio has achieved a milestone of sorts for the animation business as a whole, by being the largest producer of original Indian animation content consistently over the past four years. The company has consolidated its leadership position and the northward march continues. With 5 TV shows currently on air, and 3 more shows under production for a launch later this year, the company is the market leader in original Indian animation content production.
It all began with Motu Patlu, the studio's first original Indian IP that was launched in 2012 on Nickelodeon. Apart from being one of the most popular shows in the kids' entertainment category, Motu Patlu also holds a record of having a large content bank within a very short duration of time.
Speaking about the show, Anish Mehta, CEO, Cosmos-Maya and also the Producer of the show said, "Motu Patlu is very unique as a show. In the last four years, we have completed almost 500 episodes and almost 10 TV special features all of which have received a lot of love from the Indian kids. We intend to produce a theatrical feature film based on Motu Patlu soon. While it is a record of sorts in terms of the production, the high ratings that we have got, both for Motu Patlu and Shiva are highly encouraging. This wouldn't have been possible without the support of our broadcast partner Nickelodeon; whether it was the support to produce so much content or the mounting of the show."
Speaking about the partnership, Ms. Nina Elavia Jaipuria, EVP, Business Head - Nickelodeon, Viacom18 said, "Indian animation has come of age and Cosmos-Maya has had a significant role to play in this journey. We are very happy to have partnered with them in bringing great content for our viewers. They are one of our key strategic production partners in the kids' content space."
The association that began with Motu Patlu was further strengthened with Shiva, which launched during Diwali last year. Another runaway success for the Viacom18 and Cosmos-Maya collaboration, Shiva created new success yardsticks for animation content in the Indian market.
Anu Sikka, Head Programming - Kids Cluster, Viacom18 said, "The Cosmos-Maya team is an extremely passionate team. We have partnered with them on two key tentpole shows till now, Motu Patlu and Shiva, and they have ensured great quality of content and met our requirements on quantity in terms of volumes of episodes."
The volumes of delivery that Cosmos-Maya has been churning out has changed the landscape of animation TV series production and today the company is recognised for their on-time delivery of large volumes of good quality content.
Slapstick chase comedies are their forte and with Eena Meena Deeka, their second show airing on the Hungama channel from the Disney stable, Cosmos-Maya created a first of its kind non-dialogue chase comedy that is currently running in its second season. Written by American, Canadian and British writers, the show has been a major success in the overseas market and being one of the first Indian shows to crossover in major European markets like France, Germany among others; and a debut in the highly-coveted North American market is on the cards. "With Motu Patlu and Shiva we have strengthened our foothold in India and with Eena Meena Deeka we have widened the geographies of our operations and the show has helped us foray into mainstream international distribution," added Anish Mehta.
Their other shows include ViR - The Robot Boy that airs again on Hungama and Kisna that airs on Discovery Kids. With 3 seasons currently on air, the next step for ViR are the TV features, the first in the lot being ViR Ka Mahasangram premiered on Holi this year and there is more in store. With two seasons delivered, Kisna is a key show in the Discovery Kids stable and every special holiday generally has a massive roadblock of the show on the channel.
While these 5 shows continue to rule the roost in their own way and the 3 new shows get ready for the Indian market, Cosmos-Maya has its eyes set on its global collaborations. As a creative content producer in the burgeoning kids' content space, Cosmos-Maya regards itself as a nimble footed IP creator and nurturer and attributes all of its success to the constant focus on offering something new.
