NEW DELHI, August 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --
- Blueair to reach out to more than 1000 schools across Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune
- Focus to create awareness about the negative impact of air pollution on children's mental and physical health and to stimulate innovative thinking on how to curb pollution
In the wake of recent scientific research highlighting the negative effects of air pollution on children's mental and physical health, Blueair, a world-leader in air purification solutions, today launched 'Blueair Champions', a nation-wide campaign to raise awareness of the prevalence and dangers of air pollution among children in India.
Pollution is round the corner phenomenon where most of the cities in India have started witnessing drastic rise in air pollution in last two years. The abnormal spurt in cities like Delhi, Mumbai has led to an increase in multiple health issue across all age groups.
Children are soft targets and are prone to get affected with bad air quickly. The air that a child breathes during its first year is critical for building the immune system and preventing it from developing allergies in the future. Exposure to indoor air pollution during the childhood is also known to have a negative effect on children's respiratory health and cognitive abilities. Breathing clean air on the other hand, can improve learning, physical performance and reduce the risk of asthma and allergies.
The campaign 'Blueair Champions' will reach out as medium to next generation India, will create larger engagement with over 1,00,000 young minds with ideas to curb the menace of this widely spreading issue.
Blueair with these steps will continue its global vision of protecting young generation, supports its mission where it believes Clean air is a human right. Blueair Champions activity will reach out through more than 1000 school engagements in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune, and will attract the school children where they will contribute and get appreciation for their innovative thoughts to bring down the pollution levels.
"By investing in children, we are investing in our society," s aid Mr. Girish Bapat, Director South Asia, Middle East & Africa, Blueair AB, Sweden. He further added , "Children are the future of our society and they must be nurtured for a better tomorrow. With an increasing air pollution level and our lack of awareness we are putting ourselves and our children at risk. Children breathe more rapidly than adults, taking in more air in relation to their body weights. This, and the fact that their lungs, brains and immune systems are still developing, make them more vulnerable to air pollution. Blueair has a long-term commitment to improve the health and well-being of children everywhere. Across the world, Blueair is actively working with schools to improve the air quality and educate and inform children and parents about the importance of clean air for children's physical and cognitive development. With Blueair Champions we hope to reach 1 Mn children in India."
A UNICEF report estimates that 17 million babies worldwide - 12 million of them in South Asia - live in areas that record pollution levels six times higher than the international safe limits. These children who are exposed to air pollution face several health issues. The study reveals that, children who are affected from air pollution faced problems of low verbal and nonverbal IQ and memory, reduced test scores, grade point averages among school going children, along with neurological behavioural issues. Several studies have found air pollution linked to harm children while they are still in the womb. Pregnant women who are exposed to even low levels of particle pollution had higher risk for preterm birth.
With a vision to spread a movement of better breathing Blueair with its HEPASilent™ technology, uses a combination of mechanical and electrostatic filtration that captures 99.97% of harmful particles from the air, down to 0.1 micron in size.
