Perception Point Adds Business Email Compromise (BEC) Protection to Its Security Platform
Next-gen solution detects payload-less and payload-based techniques in order to fully protect against BEC
TEL AVIV, Israel, May 13, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Perception Point, a leading cybersecurity firm preventing file and URL based attacks in email, cloud storage and messaging channels today announced the addition of BEC protection, which protects against social-engineering based attacks with or without a payload.
BEC attacks leverage impersonation and company knowledge to trick employees into wiring money or data, or into modifying bank account details ahead of an upcoming payment. A commonly seen technique is email spoofing, which does not include any payload at all. However, a misconception is that all BEC attacks do not contain a payload or malicious content. According to Perception Point CEO, Yoram Salinger, that is not in fact the case. "More advanced BEC attacks actually do involve a payload. The methods that attackers may use include account takeover and credential theft, whereby the final malicious email in the kill chain does not involve a payload, but preliminary phases do."
In today's enterprise, employees are very distracted, making them the weakest link in the security chain and an easy target for attackers. The only way to prevent BEC attacks is to ensure a combination of strong malicious payload-based protection, anti-spoofing and anti-impersonation tools, 100% scanning of traffic, and understanding that there is no such thing as a 'trusted sender.'
