About "O"
The KAI Group unveiled the details of its project to develop the world's best sewing scissors in partnership with Mr. Nobuki Hizume at the "Good Blade Day" event held on November 8, 2023.
The scissors have been named "O" after the first letter of the word "origin" in a bid to represent KAI's intention to create a "new beginning in the history of scissors." Combining the KAI Group's superb craftsmanship in making sewing scissors that it has cultivated for over 40 years, and the knowledge of Mr. Hizume, it took more than five years to create and finally commercialize the "world's best scissors." Now, the "O" scissors that were developed with meticulous attention to detail are on display at Maison&Objet in Paris to promote KAI's cutting-edge blade technology overseas.
- Specifications
Under Mr. Hizume's advice, the "O" scissors will be sold as a set of six pairs of scissors for cutting a wide array of materials, from thin fabrics to thick leather, when making hats. The "O" lineup features models that apply the blade body and shape of hairstyling shears into sewing scissors such as thread-cutting scissors, and models with serrated (jagged) blades characterized by different pitches from the base to the tip of the blade.
The KAI Group was able to achieve the sharpness required by Mr. Hizume by pursuing unparalleled blade sharpness with the help of the company's extensive knowledge of a wide range of blades, including hairstyling shears. The "O" scissors can be used for a long time with regular maintenance.

The case for storing the six sewing scissors in the set is made of chestnut wood from Gifu Prefecture, the birthplace of the KAI Group in central Japan. In addition, the case is wrapped in a "furoshiki" cloth wrapper bearing the "O" logo to give it a unique Japanese touch.
