Zaldiva and Allen Bellman of Timely/Marvel Comics Team Up
Allen Bellman joined Timely/Marvel in Oct. of 1942 and will be at Zaldiva's store on May 1, 2010
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Zaldiva, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: ZLDV), (Xetra/Frankfurt Exchange: UZ8), a specialty retailer of new and vintage Pop Culture collectibles, comic books and memorabilia, is pleased to announce that Allen Bellman of the original Timely Comics, now known as Marvel Comics will be at Zaldiva's Fort Lauderdale store on May 1, 2010 to sign autographs, do freelance drawings and tell stories of the history of the comic book industry.
Allen Bellman leads the cast and more artists will follow for this event called Free Comic Book Day 2010. Zaldiva employees will be on-hand to answer collector questions and assist those new to the hobby with selecting merchandise. There will be specials throughout the store and independent artists to get that one-of-a-kind drawing or sketch.
"Free comic Book Day is a great idea. It can bring fans together and introduce the comic book store to those who are not comic book fans", says Mr. Bellman. "Zaldiva Comics is a friendly store, with people who know how to run a business. I've worked with some of the greats like Gene Colan, Syd Shores, Frank Giacoia, Mike Sekowsky, Al Jaffee, Valerie Barclay and so much more. I also worked for Bob Wood and Charley Biro at Lev Gleason Publications."
He joined Timely/Marvel in 1942, then shortly after, Simon and Kirby left to work for DC Comics. "Never met both gentlemen until about 3 years ago. With Kirby gone it was Joe Simon at the Montclair Museum, Montclair, N.J. where the Movie, "The Legends Behind The Comic Books" was being shown. I thanked Joe Simon and he asked "What for?" I told him when both he and Kirby left Timely/Marvel, they left an opening for me to join the bullpen - he laughed. I, along with Joe Simon, Stan Lee and other great artists are in this film. I worked for Stan Lee for many years while in the bullpen and freelance. Stan and I exchange emails from time to time", reminisces Mr. Bellman.
"We are very glad and thankful to have someone like Allen Bellman be at this special event. This is a great way to attract new customers and subscribers for our business", states Nicole Leigh, President. "Allen told us he had bought the similar Superman Comic Book when he was 14 or 15 that had just sold for $1.5 million. Now he wishes he had kept it back then! This is a great business and keep your comic books!"
The Comic Book Industry continues to get more attention daily, from comic books selling for $1.5 million to Disney buying Marvel Comics for $4 billion. Comic books have been propelled to the front ranks of pop culture, many being adapted into movies such as "Watchmen," "Wanted," "Iron Man," "Spider-Man" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine, among many others.
