LONG BEACH, Calif., Oct. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Yair Katz, CPA, a highly regarded financial executive with substantial experience in the health care, academic and nonprofit sectors, has been named Chief Financial Officer at MemorialCare Health System's Long Beach Memorial, Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach and Community Hospital Long Beach.
MemorialCare's Long Beach operations include more than 7,000 employees, affiliated physicians, volunteers and associates and produce over $1 billion in annual revenues. Its Long Beach Memorial & Miller Children's campus is among the two largest hospital campuses in the West and is one of just a small number of campuses in the U.S. with both adult and children's teaching hospitals, allowing for a lifetime of care in one location. Miller Children's is listed among the 10 largest children's hospitals in the U.S. by Modern Healthcare and Becker's Healthcare. Both Long Beach Memorial and Community Hospital Long Beach received top "A" grades from The Leapfrog Group's Hospital Safety Score which assigns letter grades to adult hospitals based on their quality and safety efforts.
Katz, most recently Assistant Vice President and Associate University Controller for University of Southern California (USC), will fill the position vacated by John Bishop, who became Chief Executive Officer of the three Long Beach hospitals in June. In his role at USC, Katz was responsible for reviewing the operational and financial performance of the three USC hospitals on a monthly basis and the re-design and implementation of their financial system. He also served as liaison between the University and USC hospitals and was responsible for enhancing communication and collaboration among the USC Healthcare Enterprise executives and the University.
A Los Angeles native, Katz began his career in public accounting and spent nine years with PricewaterhousCoopers (PwC) in its Los Angeles office, rising to positions in senior management and overseeing large teams, providing mentorship and coaching. During his tenure with PwC, he was responsible for leading large audit engagements for health care entities, universities and not-for-profit organizations.
Among his community activities, Katz received the Chai Lifeline "Builders of Hope" award for his many contributions in supporting the organization's mission of providing comprehensive services free of charge to families with pediatric illnesses. Katz is also a founder and Chair of Chai Lifeline's Young Leadership committee. He and his wife live in Long Beach with their two children.
"Yair brings a wealth of experience, expertise and a demonstrated track record of success in all aspects of health care finance," says John Bishop, CEO of the three MemorialCare hospitals in Long Beach. "For several years, we witnessed his impressive work and key role in the annual financial audit of MemorialCare and have been highly impressed with his knowledge of our organization, his technical skills, communication style and overall professionalism."
"I'm excited to be aligned with these leading Long Beach hospitals, a great health system, remarkable leadership team and a wonderful community that my family calls home," said Katz. "I look forward to working with our outstanding employees, physicians, board members and volunteers."
