ALISO VIEJO, Calif. and TAIPEI, Taiwan, March 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- WT Microelectronics Co., Ltd. (TAIEX: 3036) and Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC) today announced WT Microelectronics is investing in a design center to expand customer accessibility and support for Microsemi's leading-edge FPGA capabilities. At the new design center, OEM developers have access to broad engineering support and valuable application-specific reference designs enabling them to solve their mainstream FPGA-based design challenges using Microsemi's award-winning SmartFusion®2 SoC FPGAs and IGLOO®2 FPGAs.
The design center, located in Taipei, Taiwan, will enable customers to work with a powerful team of highly technical experts that are certified on Microsemi's mainstream FPGA product lines along with Microsemi's field application engineers and system solution specialists. OEM customers working with the new design center will also realize advantageous support from extensive design knowledgebase, tools and design platforms that result in a lower overall total-cost-of-ownership (TCO).
"WT made the decision to invest in this design center because we recognize the value that our customers can realize with Microsemi FPGAs' best-in-class mainstream features and highly differentiated capabilities," said Eric Cheng, president of WT Microelectronics. "The design center leverages WT's exceptional technical expertise with FPGA-based applications and solid customer relationships, along with the feature strengths of Microsemi's outstanding FPGA support infrastructure. This helps ensure customers have the world-class support and development tools they need to streamline and simplify the design process."
Microsemi's SmartFusion2 SoC FPGA and IGLOO2 FPGA product lines offer a proven and comprehensive range of mainstream features that include mid-size LUT-based FPGA fabrics, SERDES, high speed I/Os, DSPs and math blocks. With these in-demand features, Microsemi FPGAs deliver highly integrated solutions for system designers that must constantly optimize their new designs. Microsemi's lowest power consumption, best-in-class security technology and highest reliability FPGA devices enable system designers to further differentiate their end-product from the competition and gain new market share.
"WT Microelectronics is an important strategic sales channel partner for Microsemi in Asia, and has embraced our winning mainstream FPGA market strategy by investing in resources for a new design center—bringing the highest caliber of support to our customers while allowing WT to significantly expand its market share in this important region," said Rick Goerner, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Microsemi. "Enhancing our technical support in the region allows more and more new customers to take advantage of our broad range of FPGA products as we continue to develop innovative technology that leads the industry."
About SmartFusion2 SoC FPGAs
SmartFusion2 SoC FPGAs integrate inherently reliable flash-based FPGA fabric, a 166 megahertz (MHz) ARM Cortex-M3 processor, advanced security processing accelerators, DSP blocks, SRAM, eNVM and industry-required high performance communication interfaces, all on a single chip. Microsemi's SmartFusion2 SoC FPGAs are designed to address fundamental requirements for advanced security, high reliability and low power in critical communications, industrial, defense, aviation and medical applications.
About IGLOO2 FPGAs
Microsemi's IGLOO2 FPGAs continue the company's focus on addressing the needs of today's cost-optimized FPGA markets by providing a LUT based fabric, 5G transceivers, high speed GPIO, block RAM, a high-performance memory subsystem, and DSP blocks in a differentiated, cost and power optimized architecture. This next generation IGLOO2 architecture offers up to five times more logic density and three times more fabric performance than its predecessors and combines a non-volatile flash based fabric with the highest number of general purpose I/Os, 5G SERDES interfaces and PCI Express end points when compared to other products in its class. IGLOO2 FPGAs offer best-in-class feature integration coupled with the lowest power, highest reliability and most advanced security in the industry.
