WPG Americas Inc. First Electronics Distributor to Launch Online Conflict Free Minerals Resource
SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- WPG Americas Inc. (WPGA) is aware of the role that minerals found in electronic components play in perpetuating the humanitarian crisis in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and adjoining regions recognized worldwide for human rights violations and environmental degradation. To ensure the non-use of these materials, WPGA has implemented a policy and adjoined the alliance in support of banning the use of conflict free minerals with our suppliers.
WPGA polled its suppliers and compiled a detailed list of their position. All WPGA customers can now access supplier conflict free minerals policies at www.wpgamericas.com/conflict_minerals.php. This listing will continue to be updated as industry initiatives are developed and efforts proceed.
"It is very rare in the electronics distribution industry that we have the opportunity to impact and influence humanitarian efforts. As a global organization we immediately took action to support this initiative, with the hope that our efforts will make a difference and influence others to do the same" said Dave Bowers Vice President, Supplier Marketing.
