Worldwide Business Use Smartphone 2014-2018 Forecast and Analysis
LONDON, July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Reportbuyer.com has added a new market research report:
Worldwide Business Use Smartphone 2014-2018 Forecast and Analysis
This IDC study presents the five-year forecast for the business use of smartphone shipments worldwide by operating system and user type (consumer, employee liable, and corporate liable).
As the smartphone market grows, so does the opportunity for smartphones within the enterprise. Enterprises will continue their practice of providing smartphones for employees to ensure full control over the experience, but the opportunity for employee-liable smartphones (commonly referred to as bring your own device [BYOD]) is growing faster. IDC believes that corporate-liable smartphone shipments will reach 111.4 million units in 2014, up 13.6% from the 98.1 million units in 2013. From there, total volumes will reach 149.7 million units in 2018, resulting in a CAGR of 8.8% for 2014-2018. By comparison, employee-liable smartphone shipments will reach 221.0 million units in 2014, up 36.2% from the 162.3 million units in 2013. From there, total volumes will reach 331.3 million units, resulting in a CAGR of 15.3% for 2014-2018.
"Even as the opportunity for smartphones in the enterprise grows, that opportunity is not spread evenly across all platforms," says Ramon Llamas, research manager with IDC's Mobile Phones team. "Through sheer volume alone, Android and iOS will have tremendous traction within the enterprise and mostly through enterprise-liable smartphone shipments. We expect Windows Phone to have a fast-growing play throughout our forecast period. BlackBerry, meanwhile, will cede share but will still have a presence within select market segments."
