World's Premier Online Doctor of Education in TESOL
ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- After pioneering the field of online education in the mid-nineties with the world's first Master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) taught online in real time, Anaheim University has launched an Online Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in TESOL. Although an online Doctorate in TESOL or Applied Linguistics is not a new degree, an accredited Doctoral degree in TESOL that is taught online is unique, and the fact that the program is taught live in real time through face-to-face HD webcam classes by a veritable "Who's Who in Applied Linguistics" is drawing the attention of the global linguistics community.
The program was developed and is overseen by Program Director Dr. Rod Ellis, who has served as a Full Professor and TESOL Chair in the Anaheim University Graduate School of Education since 1998. Rod Ellis is a world acclaimed author of TESOL and Applied Linguistics texts, and recipient of Oxford University Press' Award for the Best Book in Applied Linguistics. The faculty that teach the program are all experts in TESOL and Applied Linguistics, with Dr. David Nunan, Dr. Kathleen Bailey, Dr. Denise Murray, and Dr. MaryAnn Christison being former presidents of the TESOL International Association (the world's largest language teaching organization), and all faculty, including Dr. Andy Curtis, Dr. Martha Clark-Cummings, Dr. Ken Beatty, Dr. Brian Tomlinson and Dr. Gary Barkhuizen, being acclaimed authors for Oxford / Cambridge University Press, Prentice-Hall, Longman, McGraw-Hill, etc. David Nunan, who has been the Graduate School of Education Dean since Anaheim's founding, holds the distinction of being the world's leading textbook author with worldwide sales of 2.5 billion texts.
The delivery method is noteworthy. According to Anaheim University President Dr. William Hartley, "By using HD webcam classrooms, expert professors and students are able to engage in live face-to-face classes on a weekly basis, no matter where in the world they reside. This is complemented by four-day intensive residential sessions in California twice during the three-year program as well as weekly online discussion forums and assignments that students complete in their free time. The final dissertation is also defended online live in real time."
Anaheim University is accepting applications for the online Doctor of Education in TESOL program.
