World Policy Institute Names Joseph Cari as Chairman of Board of Directors
NEW YORK, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the World Policy Institute announced Joseph A. Cari, Jr. was appointed Chairman of its Board of Directors.
"We could not be more pleased that Joe Cari has accepted the role of Chairman of the World Policy Institute," said former Chairman, John Watts, who took up the role in 2006 and will remain a member of the Board. "He's an accomplished and respected international scholar, businessman, and philanthropist. The Board recognized that Joe's leadership, creatively and energy along with his excellent experience provides the needed skills to take the Institute through its next phase of growth to which we are all very much looking forward."
Headquartered in New York, the World Policy Institute is a non-partisan think tank, founded in 1961, as a vehicle for global dialogue and understanding by a group of internationally minded business leaders, including former Secretary of the US Treasury, C. Douglas Dillon. True to its original vision, today World Policy Institute is a preeminent global think tank focused on emerging challenges, and uncovering influential thinkers and writers on critical international issues. Its principal publication, The World Policy Journal, offers an online and quarterly forum for solution-directed policy analysis from the perspective of contributing journalists from around the world. Some of the current programs of the Institute include: Entrepreneurship Ecosystems, a study of common factors that spur entrepreneurship across global markets; World Economic Policy Program, a series of roundtables discussions and symposia featuring some of the world's most innovative economic thought leaders working on issues of global financial growth, stability and societal wellbeing; and Arctic Deeply, soon to be an online multi-lingual news and education site created to build awareness and understanding among the international community about this little known but important region and its geopolitical issues.
"World Policy Institute has an increasingly important role to play in bringing the global business community together with governments and the NGO sectors to create policies and thought leadership that have real impact," says Cari. "I am delighted to be working with the Board and staff of World Policy Institute at this time when a global perspective is more important than ever before."
Mr. Cari's substantial background in global affairs goes back decades. Most notably, in 1995, he was appointed as Chairman of the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars by President Bill Clinton. During his tenure of seven years at the Wilson Center, he worked in a bipartisan fashion with the United State Congress and various Federal Agencies on increasing funding for the Center and on international issues facing the United States. Additionally, Cari played a central role in strategic planning and led the recruitment of former Representative Lee Hamilton to become President of the Center at the end of his 34-year tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives.
