Winner of Upcoming Final Table Contest Takes Home $100,000 and World Food Champion Title
KISSIMMEE, Fla., Nov. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- WORLD FOOD CHAMPIONSHIPS, the largest event in the growing global Food Sport scene, capped a week of events by naming nine new World Champions this weekend, setting the field for FINAL TABLE on Tuesday, Nov. 10, the winner of which will receive an additional $100,000.
Beginning this past Wednesday, competitors from more than 340 teams, representing 40 U.S. states and 17 countries, began the five-day tournament that defined the new Champions. Cooking teams battled in nine classic categories – Bacon, Barbecue, Burger, Chili, Dessert, Pasta, Recipe, Sandwich, Seafood – to find nine category champions, each of whom earned $10,000 for their victories.
The Head Cooks for WFC's 2015 category champions include:
Bacon World Champion – Stephen Coe of Plymouth, Massachusetts.
World Barbecue Champion – Loren Hall of Overland Park, Kansas
World Burger Champion – Rusty Johnson of Port Moody, British Columbia
World Chili Champion – Wayne Shymko of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
World Dessert Champion – Lynn Smith of Acworth, Georgia
World Pasta Champion – Suzanne Clark of Phoenix, Arizona
World Recipe Champion – Alethia Shih of San Jose, California.
World Sandwich Champion – Lori Rukstales of Roberts, Wisconsin
World Seafood Champion – Cindy Taffel of Pompano Beach, Fla.
As part of Tuesday night's FINAL TABLE event, these nine Champions will prepare dishes representative of the categories they won. Those dishes will be scored using WFC's unique EAT Methodology, which awards points for the Execution of a recipe, the Appearance of the presentation plate and the all-important aspect of Taste. A perfect score is 100. The scoring system levels the judging field so that dishes from different categories can be evaluated against one another.
The Champion whose Final Table dish scores the highest will become the 2015 World Food Champion and win $100,000.
Competitors at this year's World Food Championships – the fourth WFC event and first contested in Central Florida – battled inside KENMORE KITCHEN ARENA, the world's largest outdoor kitchen.
