World Book Introduces New Series to Address Bullying
Anti-Bullying Basics Offers Advice for Students and Perspective for Educators, Parents
CHICAGO, Jan. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- World Book, Inc., a leading educational publisher with more than 96 years of experience creating authoritative reference and curriculum content for students, has recently published its newest print series, Anti-Bullying Basics, designed to explore the increasingly urgent issue of bullying amongst school-age children.
"Bullying is a serious concern, and I am grateful that World Book has created the informative and useful Anti-Bullying Basics series. This is a tremendous addition to our school's anti-bullying resources and a must-have for any school that wishes to confront this issue," says Mary Cravens, Media Coordinator at Cleveland Middle School in Garner, North Carolina.
With content vetted by Dr. Kari Sassu, Assistant Professor in the Counseling and School Psychology Department at Southern Connecticut State University, the series uses proven strategies to identify bullying and offers thoughtful advice embedded between real-life narratives and topical questions from kids.
"I'm honored to have contributed to World Book's new Anti-Bullying Basics series," says Dr. Sassu. "I am confident that these books will be effective and practical guides for many students and serve as effective conversation starters for those who work with children. They are a worthwhile choice for any school or library collection."
Intended to serve as a guide for children and early teens, Anti-Bullying Basics offers practical advice on how to avoid and find relief from bullying in a straightforward question-and-answer format that appeals to young readers. Photo spreads and colorful illustrations also complement the text in this series comprising six volumes: Bullied by Boys; Bullied by Friends; Bullied by Girls; Bullied by Groups; Bulled in Cyberspace; and Bullied to Belong. Librarians, teachers, parents, guidance counselors, athletic directors, coaches, and other youth caregivers can gain vital perspective on what students may be experiencing and be better prepared to guide and support bullied children.
Indicators of School and Crime Safety: 2012, a statistical report prepared by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics, points out that nearly 30% of students between the ages of 12 and 18 are bullied at school. Because of this alarmingly high statistic, educators and students alike are in need of a practical and easy-to-use resource to consult when problems undoubtedly arise.
Anti-Bullying Basics is currently available for purchase at www.worldbook.com. School and library customers can order online or through their local World Book representative at 800-975-3250 (U.S.) or 800-837-5365 (Canada).
