Workforce Alliance Provides Local Resources to Employers and Job Seekers
- Governor Declares September as Workforce Development Month
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Charlie Crist issued an official proclamation to honor workforce development organizations by declaring September as Workforce Development Month. These organizations provide services to employers and job seekers statewide. In Palm Beach County, Workforce Alliance continues to serve a record number of unemployed individuals as the local unemployment rate is 12.2 percent with over 72,000 workers currently seeking employment.
Kathryn Schmidt, President and Chief Executive Officer of Workforce Alliance, said, "As the rate of unemployment increased over the past year, Workforce Alliance was instrumental in placing thousands of youth and adult job seekers in paid work experience programs and full-time employment. Our professional staff assists Palm Beach County residents by providing free workshops on job-search related topics, job placement, computer assistance, and training for eligible job seekers."
During Workforce Development Month, Workforce Alliance will hold training and workshops for employers and job seekers at several community events including: "Offender Employment Specialist Training" on September 8th in Boynton Beach; "Florida Re-entry Summit," September 21st in West Palm Beach; and the "Making Connections Employer Conference" on September 23rd in West Palm Beach. In addition, two mobile resource units with internet /computer capabilities will be deployed to area libraries, The Lord's Place community center, The Northwood Youth Empowerment Center, the Town of Jupiter Community Center, and other locations.
Workforce Alliance also hosts free workshops for job seekers at all Career Center locations, Monday – Friday, on such topics as job search techniques, resume development, interviewing, computer skills and assistance with accessing the state employment database, The Employ Florida Marketplace.
