Women's Health & FEED Team Up For The 4th Annual RUN10 FEED10 Nationwide Charity Race Series
Special hosts: GMA's Ginger Zee in NYC & CW's The Flash's Danielle Panabaker in San Francisco
NEW YORK, Sept. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Women's Health Magazine, the fastest-growing international women's magazine with a global audience of 27 million, celebrating its 10-year anniversary this fall, and FEED, the social business founded by philanthropist and social entrepreneur, Lauren Bush Lauren, are partnering for the 4th annual RUN10 FEED10 10K race series across the U.S .with a mission to help fight domestic hunger. The initiative has helped raise 3.75 million meals for Americans in need since its launch—the goal is to raise a cumulative 5 million meals this year.
RUN 10 FEED 10 started in 2012 with the hope of raising money and awareness for the dire hunger problem in America. The concept is simple: RUN a 10K and FEED 10 hungry people in your hometown. Kicking off in New York City on September 20, 2015, participants will race down the West Side Highway for a timed 10K run with proceeds supporting New York City Metropolitan Food Banks. RUN10 FEED10 will also host timed races at Chicago's Diversey Harbor (October 17) and across the famed Golden Gate Bridge with special guest host Danielle Panabaker from CW's The Flash in San Francisco (October 10). Each run will include a post-race wellness festival featuring yoga sessions, nutrition and beauty consultations, photo booths, and great giveaways from sponsors including Hoka One One, Colgate Total, Depend, Geico, Hydroxycut, Medela, StrongGirl and Vitafusion. Each registered participant will also receive a limited-edition FEED bag, FEED bracelet and have 10 meals donated locally on their behalf.
"RUN10 FEED10 is an initiative that has proven year-over-year to make an important impact, but there are still millions of Americans who don't know when they will get their next meal," says Laura Frerer-Schmidt, VP/Publisher of Women's Health. "The more people who support RUN10 FEED10, whether it is running a 10k with us or helping to fundraise with Crowdrise, the more meals FEED can provide help fight domestic hunger."
Women's Health and FEED will also host Fun Runs nationwide and offer a plot-your-course virtual 10-K, allowing racers anywhere to participate between now and Giving Tuesday on December 1. Fun Run cities include: Boston, (9/26), Denver (9/26), Detroit (9/19), Atlanta (10/3), Seattle (10/4), Washington D.C (10/10), Salt Lake City (10/10), Los Angeles (10/11) and Austin (10/17).
"I can't imagine anything more motivating than knowing your participation provides 10 meals to families in your local community," says FEED CEO and Founder, Lauren Bush Lauren. "As we continue to grow this impactful initiative year after year with our amazing partner Women's Health, adding more cities and supporters, I am hopeful that we will be able to really move the needle on fighting hunger here in America. It's really the ultimate accomplishment and return for runners: challenging one's body, while also feeding one's soul through helping others."
New this year, Women's Health will be selling limited-edition RUN10 FEED10 tank tops, t-shirts and sweatshirts on-site at the national runs. Participants can purchase the items at registration or live at the events.
FUNDRAISE WITH CROWDRISE:
Runners and consumers can also fundraise to further support their community: it takes only 10 friends donating $10 each to feed a family of four with a month's worth of meals. Participants can join a fundraising team or create their own and FEED will make sure the funds are distributed to each community. Additionally, anyone can make a donation by visiting the RUN10 FEED10 Crowdrise site and clicking on the red box that says "DONATE" on the right side of the page. Every dollar amount counts. If you fundraise for RUN 10 FEED 10, there's no minimum fundraising goal. To donate or create a team head to: https://www.crowdrise.com/womenshealthrun10feed10
