AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for enterprise, data center, cloud, wired and wireless networking, and Wistron, a leading ODM for various ICT products, including enterprise and cloud datacenter server and storage platforms optimized for datacenter and cloud environments, today announced development of workload-optimized server platforms based on Cavium's 64-bit ARMv8 ThunderX product family.
Wistron is a recognized leader in designing and manufacturing high-performance and highly-scalable compute and storage platforms for datacenters worldwide. Wistron supports the top companies in datacenter computing, who expect flexible and robust designs that reduce TCO while delivering higher performance for their workloads. Wistron's first ThunderX-based server is the WV-H7202-10 Hyper- converged system, a 2U platform with two dual-socket server nodes, and support for up to 1TB of DDR4 2400Mhz memory per node, and 8 NVMe PCIe Gen3 x 4 or SATA 2.5" SSD per chassis. This platform is optimized for workloads such as Hadoop, cloud, and other workloads requiring a balance of high computing performance with large storage capacity. Wistron will also deliver the WV-S7224-10, a 2U storage server and WV-A7424-10, a 4U 2 node storage array.
The ThunderX product family is Cavium's 64-bit ARMv8-A server processor for next generation Data Center and Cloud applications, that features high performance custom cores, single and dual socket configurations, high memory bandwidth and large memory capacity. The product family also includes integrated hardware accelerators, integrated feature rich high bandwidth network and storage IO, fully virtualized core and IO, and scalable high bandwidth, low latency Ethernet fabric, which affords ThunderX best-in-class performance per dollar and watt. They are fully compliant with ARMv8-A architecture specifications as well as ARM's SBSA and SBBR standards, and widely supported by industry leading OS, Hypervisor and Software tool and application vendors.
"Our success is built on delivering platforms that provide competitive advantage. Our customers continue to demand platform innovation that reduces TCO and increases workload performance, said Spark Chen, Director of Product Management, Enterprise Storage Division, Wistron. "The new Hyper-converged system platform is optimized for key growing workloads such as Hadoop and high performance data analytics, and will allow our customers to meet growing performance demands within their existing infrastructure."
"Our design approach for the ThunderX product family continues to prove itself," said Gopal Hegde, VP/GM DPG, Cavium. "We delivered ThunderX ARMv8 SOCs with up to 48-cores, large memory bandwidth and integrated HW accelerators and Ethernet fabric, designed for optimal performance and TCO for workloads including Ceph, cloud, big data and large-scale web. These new Wistron systems use ThunderX CPUs to full advantage, and will deliver optimized workload performance and outstanding TCO."
Availability
Wistron WV-H7202-10 ThunderX-based Hyper-converged system are expected to begin sampling by the end of this year, and will be available in 2Q16.
