Wisconsin Power and Light Agrees to Purchase Wisconsin Electric Power Company's 25 Percent Share of Edgewater Generating Station Unit 5

MADISON, Wis., April 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE: LNT), announced today that it had plans to move forward with an asset sale agreement with Wisconsin Electric Power Company to purchase its 25 percent ownership interest in Edgewater Generating Station Unit 5 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin for an undisclosed purchase price. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The Edgewater Generating Station includes three generating units with a total nameplate capacity of 770 megawatts.  Unit 3 is a 60 megawatt nameplate capacity unit that was placed in service in 1951; Unit 4 is 330 megawatts nameplate capacity unit that was placed in service in 1969; and, Unit 5 is a 380 megawatt nameplate capacity unit that was placed in service in 1985.  WPL's purchase of full ownership interest in Edgewater Generating Station Unit 5 will add about 95 megawatts of nameplate capacity to its generating portfolio.
