White Box Server Vendors' Share of Server Market Almost Doubles Y/Y in Fourth Quarter 2014

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In a recently published report from Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking, telecommunications and information technology industries, estimates revealed that white box server vendors comprised a record portion of the Server market in fourth quarter 2014.

"The number of servers that shipped to Cloud data centers was up around 50% from the year ago period.  As Cloud data centers grow as a portion of the total market, so does their consumption of white box servers," said Sameh Boujelbene, Director at Dell'Oro Group. "While many Cloud providers contributed to the strong results, we believe that most of the increase was driven by the "Big Four" (Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft). These four customers each have an installed base of more than one million servers.  To put this into context, collectively, they are buying more servers every quarter than the entire server installed base of a tier two Cloud data center, such as Rackspace or eBay, for example."
