'Where's Our Money?' Says Jack Bauer Hits His Target on Wall Street
LOS ANGELES, May 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Take it from Jack Bauer, the antiterrorist super-agent from "24": accountability is a fundamental principle of democracy that should not be compromised, contends journalist Martin Berg on WheresOurMoney.org.
In the most recent episode of the popular TV show, an uncompromising Bauer decides that the principle of accountability is stronger than his ingrained loyalty to the president of the United States.
"Accountability, Bauer says, is so fundamental to democracy that it cannot be compromised," writes veteran journalist Martin Berg in his latest post, 'Taking Aim at Wall Street – With Jack Bauer.' "When one of his former colleagues, now his new boss, hears what he's scheming, she cautions him not to go against his president. 'You're not thinking clearly,' she says. 'I'm the only one who is thinking clearly,' Bauer shoots back."
In the wake of the financial meltdown, our leaders may have decided that those responsible shouldn't be punished. But like Bauer, "we've had it with the corruption and the blundering," Berg continues. "Despite happy talk of an economic recovery that still looks far off to many on Main Street, the politicians are finding the public's outrage over the handling of the financial crisis is not abating."
"Where's Our Money" is a blog written by Berg and consumer advocate Harvey Rosenfield. It's is a project of the Consumer Education Foundation, a non-partisan, California-based non-profit that supports policy research, public education and advocacy.
