Westinghouse Opens New Office in Prague
- Third office expands existing presence in the Czech Republic
PITTSBURGH, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Westinghouse Electric Company LLC announced today that it opened a new office in the heart of Prague, Czech Republic.
The new office, which is Westinghouse’s third in the Czech Republic, was officially opened during the first week in May. The Prague office is the latest evidence of Westinghouse’s continuing expansion in the Czech Republic and its commitment to the country and the surrounding region. It is located on Na Strzi Street in the city’s Pankrac neighborhood, and is in addition to the company’s existing offices at the Temelin Nuclear Power Plant and its Prague business center office. The Temelin offices have been in operation for the past 20 years.
Westinghouse opened the additional office in order to increase its capacity to support the Czech government and CEZ for the current and future expansion of the Czech nuclear program. Westinghouse is also seeking to support an expansion of its existing services to the operating nuclear power plant at Temelin Units 1 and 2.
Kerry Hanahan, Director of Project Development in the Czech Republic, says that the opening of the office in Prague again shows the solid commitment that Westinghouse has in the Czech Republic. “As the Czech nuclear program continues to progress and grow, Westinghouse is pleased to have an additional office in Prague available to support that growth. We are looking forward to furthering existing long-term partnerships, and creating new ones, with our many constituents throughout the Czech Republic.”
In addition to operations in the Czech Republic, Westinghouse has other facilities located throughout the European Union, including Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Westinghouse EU operations employ more than 3,500 people, who support current nuclear power plant service, fuel, and new plant operations.
Westinghouse is currently engaged in the ongoing tender process for the expansion of the Temelin nuclear site and is offering the AP1000™ nuclear power plant, the only Generation III+ reactor to receive certification by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The European Utility Requirements (EUR) organization certified that the AP1000 plant is compliant with European Utility Requirements, confirming that it can be successfully deployed in Europe.
