Westinghouse Appoints Michael Sweeney as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Westinghouse Electric Company has appointed Michael Sweeney to the position of vice president and deputy general counsel, Westinghouse Legal and Contracts, Environment, Health and Safety.

In this newly formed role, Mr. Sweeney is responsible for providing ongoing operational leadership in Legal and Contracts, Environment, Health and Safety and for supporting Westinghouse product lines and global regions. Additionally, Mr. Sweeney will be instrumental in planning and implementing organizational changes in Legal and Contracts, Environment, Health and Safety in order to better support Westinghouse in meeting the growing worldwide demand for nuclear energy.

Most recently, Mr. Sweeney served as assistant general counsel, Westinghouse Nuclear Services and International where he was responsible for the overall legal support and coordination for Nuclear Services activities globally. Prior to joining Westinghouse in 2005, he was a partner in the Pittsburgh-based law firm of Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP , and previously held positions of increasing responsibility with the Law Department of CBS Corporation, formerly Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

Mr. Sweeney is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. He is an active member of the American, Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations and is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his undergraduate degree as well as his master's of business administration and law degrees.

Mr. Sweeny will be located at the Westinghouse headquarters in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania (USA), and will report to Ramsey Coates, senior vice president and general counsel, Legal and Contracts, Environment, Health and Safety.
