Web Startup AboutOne.com Announces Public Beta Release and Program to Support On-Ramping Mothers
With an eye toward recent reports of disappointing job growth and higher unemployment in the U.S., AboutOne.com launches its Comeback Mom Returnship program to ease the way for on-ramping moms
PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Majority women-owned and managed startup AboutOne.com (http://www.AboutOne.com) is committed to making life easier for moms and has announced the public beta of its online service along with a Comeback Mom Returnship program. With an eye toward recent reports of disappointing job growth and higher unemployment in the U.S., Comeback Mom Returnships (http://www.aboutone.com/about-us/comeback-mom-returnships/) are designed to support women returning to the workforce.
AboutOne's cloud-based software delivers a new, comprehensive approach to personal information management. In addition to providing one secure location to store information for easy access in case of a medical or other emergency, AboutOne also uses the information entered to save time on everyday family administrative chores like creating family newsletters, digital scrapbooks, hardcover photo albums and greeting cards that mail themselves, and completing school forms, college applications, caregiver instructions, and capital gains reports for tax returns.
CEO Joanne Lang's mission to make life easier for moms, both through her company's online family information management service and through its approach to hiring, led to AboutOne's returnship program. The program offers flexible career opportunities, including telecommuting and part-time hours, and was developed to make workplace re-entry easier for women who have taken a career break in order to care for family.
"Comeback Mom Returnships allow us to attract talented and experienced women who want to return to the business world after off-ramping," says Lang. "Since our company's target market is busy moms with kids, Comeback Moms offer us invaluable experience and insights for product development and marketing. In return, these women develop new skills, polish existing ones, and add business startup experience to their resumes."
Katrine Kubis, Director of PR and Communications, worked for ten years as an IBM marketing representative and systems consultant with Accenture. Kubis took time off when her children were young but remained actively involved in a variety of non-profit organizations in the US and overseas. "I love my job at AboutOne," says Kubis, "and the fact that AboutOne values my experiences, both inside and outside the workplace, and the skills I've developed as a result of becoming a mom."
AboutOne.com's program offers flexible work arrangements on a trial basis to provide women with the opportunity to refine their skills and demonstrate their capabilities. Upon completion of the returnship, participants are evaluated for permanent employment with AboutOne.
