Weathernews Launches Oklahoma Innovation Center in September
TOKYO, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Weathernews Inc.(WNI) is actively developing new innovative infrastructure and technologies to enhance its unique weather content services.
In order to accelerate its drive to enhance services supporting the needs of the shipping industry, aviation, railway and road markets, thus responding to transportation weather user needs, Weathernews established the Oklahoma Innovation Center in September.
At Oklahoma Innovation Center, the development of completely new and innovative service infrastructure aimed at analyzing not only the weather, but also terrestrial, hydrological and oceanographical phenomena as well as space weather, will be pursued.
Weathernews will adopt a "Join & Share" approach, which stresses joint creation and information sharing. This approach will allow students, research institutions, or anyone who aspires to engage in weather related research or innovative infrastructure to join in Weathernews' undertaking in adopting American wisdom to pursue research and development for the following:
Improved Application of Compact "WITH Radar"
The "WITH Radar" project was created to detect localized meteorological phenomena such as air mass thunderstorms, severe snow storms and tornados that affect highways, railroads and airlines, and develop safety measures against these weather hazards.
To respond to emerging market needs, it is essential to attain more accurate and reliable detection of meteorological phenomena. The research and development to enhance resolution for "WITH Radar" observation will be conducted at the Oklahoma Innovation Center.
New radar development
Following the success of "WITH Radar" in Japan, Weathernews intends to extend our radar network worldwide for quick detection of meteorological phenomena, while developing new radar technology.
"KAKUHO Assimilation"
"KAKUHO Assimilation" uses of every kind of real-time data including observations and analyses generated by the "WITH Radar" network, live camera imaging, and observation analysis that incorporates user weather reports. This data will eventually be used in forecasts for optimization of road maintenance operations.
Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) Forecasting
The airline industry is in need of an effective means to determine areas of CAT in order to ensure safe operation of aircraft. Weathernews will establish a "CAT Center" which will incorporate advanced forecasting techniques to enable airlines to avoid areas of turbulence along their flight path.
