TACOMA, Wash., Sept. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Washington Virtual Academies (WAVA), a network of tuition-free, online public charters schools, welcomes new and returning students for the 2015-2016 academic year, which begins on September 9. Now entering its 10th year of serving students across the state of Washington, WAVA combines online instruction, hands-on curriculum and the support of Washington-licensed teachers to offer each student an individualized education. Interested students also have the option to earn college credits while still in high school.
"When you enroll in a Washington Virtual Academies, you enroll in more than a school," said Mark Christiano, WAVA Head of Schools. "You join a vibrant learning community of dedicated teachers, and parents committed to seeing each and every student achieve up to their potential. Without a doubt, online learning requires student dedication and commitment, but the rewards of personal growth and academic improvement are well worth the effort!"
Students who enroll at WAVA follow an academic program that includes engaging web-based lessons along with age-appropriate instructional materials – books, videos, and other hands-on tools and resources – which are shipped directly to each student's home. WAVA teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, and regularly interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings. Teachers also organize numerous field trips and school activities where students have the opportunity to participate in events that blend academics and socialization.
The rigorous curriculum includes courses in language arts/English, math, science, history, world languages, art and music. Lessons are delivered with a rich mixture of on- and offline teaching tools, including interactive animations, award-winning printed books with beautiful illustrations and narrative, original videos, and materials for hands-on experiments. In keeping with the schools objective to ensure academic mastery, lessons are followed by assessments to ensure students have mastered a particular area before moving on. Elective, Honors and Advanced Placement® courses are available for high school students, and juniors and seniors have the option to take up to fifteen college credits through the Running Start program operated in conjunction with local community colleges, or to obtain certifications through WAVA and their local Skills Center.
WAVA is still accepting enrollments for grades K-8 for this Fall. Online information sessions are being held throughout the month. For more information on the school, to find upcoming informational events or to enroll, visit http://wava.k12.com.
