Walnut Hill Medical Center Opening April 2014
Patient-centered design integrates physician best practice knowledge
DALLAS, March 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Walnut Hill Medical Center (WHMC), a new 8-story, 100-bed full service hospital, will see its first patient this April. The 200,000-square-foot facility marks the dawn of a new era of health care delivery, one designed entirely from the patient's perspective and enhanced by the best practice experience of the hospital's renowned medical staff.
"More than 10 years ago, a group of innovative health care leaders decided to turn their vision of health care into reality," said Cory Countryman, WHMC's chief executive officer. "They envisioned a place where health care providers could come together as a community to care for patients and each other. Combining the latest in medical technology with world-class customer service, our founders felt that they could create a special place where they could improve health and enrich lives. The opportunity to develop a brand new hospital comes along once in a lifetime. I'm especially gratified that we're creating an environment where everyone is empowered to take the best care of patients."
A driving force in the design of WHMC has been the strong partnership between physicians, administration, staff and the community. The building represents the best ideas from the partnership. But, as Countryman is quick to point out, the medical center is more than bricks and mortar — it's the guiding philosophy of the best people guided by best practices using advanced technology to provide excellent care to patients.
WHMC will offer a comprehensive array of medical and surgical services including cardiovascular, gynecologic, imaging, general surgery, emergency medicine and intensive care. The facility includes:
- 84 private patient suites
- 16-bed intensive care / critical care unit
- 10-bed full service emergency department
- 6 operating suites
- Cardiovascular OR
- 5 cardiovascular suites
- 2 cardiac catheterization labs
- 2 electrophysiology labs
- 1 hybrid suite
- Sleep laboratory
Featuring an open design, the WHMC's lobby and patient care units, including ICU/CCU, are bathed in natural light including floor-to-ceiling windows that offer spectacular views of surrounding parks and neighborhoods. Patients and visitors coming to the hospital will enter the lobby from the main portico entrance on the northeast corner of Walnut Hill Lane and Greenville Avenue. Complimentary valet parking will be provided to all patients and visitors. WHMC's interior is accented with richly colored wood and earth tones, adding to the soothing, healing environment. The design encourages easy flow of patients and visitors and creates a welcoming environment for family members. Patient care areas thoughtfully integrate the equipment and fixtures required by nurses and other caregivers into the large, beautifully appointed patient suites. Each suite includes a sofa that quickly converts to a twin bed, enabling a family member to comfortably stay with their loved one overnight.
"We are excited to make the Walnut Hill Medical Center vision a reality," said Countryman. "We are raising the bar on patient-centered care in North Texas and we think that patients, their families and the physicians who practice here will truly appreciate the difference."
