DALLAS, May 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Voyager Learning, the nation's most comprehensive provider of PreK–12 intervention learning solutions and education services, announced today the release of We Can: Early Learning Curriculum, Second Edition, an evidence-based Pre-K curriculum that prepares all children to be academically successful in kindergarten and beyond.

Over the last decade, the We Can program has changed the lives of young students with a comprehensive approach to early learning. Authored by noted early childhood consultant, speaker, and thought-leader Vicki Gibson, Ph.D., the fundamental goal of We Can remains the same—to prepare students for academic success in kindergarten and beyond. We Can Second Edition maintains the pedagogical and instructional integrity of the original We Can program, but has been updated to:
- Specifically address the foundational skills required by the Common Core State Standards and other state standards for kindergarten
- Integrate web-based technology through the Learning Zoo—rebuilt from the ground up, this engaging component allows children to practice important readiness skills in the classroom and at home, providing meaningful practice and learning opportunities in both English and Spanish
- Provide a more structured learning environment with a strong classroom management component
- Place more emphasis on numeracy and content-area learning
- Deliver more contemporary, age-appropriate, culturally responsive materials
"We are extremely excited about We Can's potential to play a pivotal role in our nation's mandate to strengthen early childhood education for all children," says George Logue, president of Voyager Learning. "The efficacy of We Can is proven—with the greatest successes to date achieved in Granite County, Utah, where special education referrals have been significantly reduced, particularly for children in low socio-economic demographic segments."
Supporting teachers of all experience and training levels, We Can aligns with both the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Head Start outcomes frameworks. The robust, multidisciplinary curriculum provides a clear roadmap for early childhood success—featuring easy-to-implement lesson plans, cross-curricular content addressing 10 early childhood domains, innovative learning tools, reinforced routines and procedures, a prewriting kit, and fully integrated assessments. Teachers can maximize multiple opportunities to observe children, identify their capabilities and needs, and monitor their progress.
"We Can is a research- and evidence-based early learning curriculum and classroom management system that helps teachers provide high-quality whole-class and small-group instruction," says author Vicki Gibson, Ph.D. "It includes teacher support for differentiating instruction to needs, learning centers for productive play and collaborative practice, and multiple assessment options."
