PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Friday, October 30, 2015, Virtua presented its second Healthcare Collaborations Summit, "Transforming Healthcare Outside of Healthcare," in partnership with The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Held at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, the summit focused on the role of innovation and partnership among healthcare providers.
The summit attracted more than 250 healthcare professionals from ten states to advance the dialogue around partnerships and to foster healthcare collaborations that achieve new solutions while increasing quality, reducing costs and improving care delivery.
Featuring a keynote address by noted Harvard Business School Professor Michael E. Porter and lunchtime "Town Hall Federal Outlook" moderated by Stan Collender of Forbes, "Transforming Healthcare Outside of Healthcare" sparked conversation among healthcare leaders from around the country – including business, industry and government representatives – energizing all participants toward a roadmap for the years ahead.
"At Virtua, within and beyond our hospital walls, we've been creating new models for providing care that are cost-effective and closer to where patients work and live," said Richard P. Miller, Virtua president and CEO. "After all, it's collaboration that helps improve coordination, communication, quality and safety – factors that, when combined, help patients be well, get well and stay well."
"The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has a long history of collaboration – with other health institutions, policy-makers, industry, donors, community members and our patient families," said Madeline Bell, president and CEO of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "Those of us who attended the Healthcare Collaborations Summit believe that the answers to the complex questions facing healthcare in 2015 and beyond will come from collaboration. CHOP looks forward to future collaborations with Virtua and all of our partners that build upon a model of offering the right care, at the right time, in the right place for families across the region."
Concurrent workshop session topics included digital medicine, accountable care, community partnerships and state innovations in chronic disease. A special session, "CEO Collaborations: Ecosystems of Health Partnerships," brought together Madeline Bell, Rich Miller, Troyen Brennan, MD (CVS Health), Stephen Klasko, MD, MBA (Thomas Jefferson University/Jefferson Health), Ralph Muller (University of Pennsylvania Health System) and Janice Nevin, MD (Christiana Care Health System) to discuss the value of healthcare partnerships in today's ever-evolving healthcare industry.
