Virilion Creates Digital Presence for Documentary Film by Christy Turlington Burns

WASHINGTON, May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- In April, Virilion launched a digital promotion effort to support the documentary film, "No Woman, No Cry," produced by Christy Turlington Burns.  

The film explores the powerful stories of at-risk women during their pregnancy in four parts of the world.  The digital effort, which includes the website www.everymothercounts.org  and a presence on Facebook and Twitter, is a platform to engage people to help women survive pregnancy and reduce maternal mortality rates by three-fourths by 2015.

"With the goal of creating an engaging, interactive, call-to-action website with social media at its heart, we worked very closely with Christy Turlington Burns and her team to conceive the idea and produce all aspects of this digital project, including design, video placement, development and social media integration," said Lynn Thomlison, creative director of Virilion. "We also include the trailer of the documentary and allow visitors to become advocates to improve maternal health globally. Although the concept is simple, we feel we've executed it extremely well, pushing all the technologies involved to their limits."

In 2005, while pregnant with her second child, Christy traveled with the organization CARE to El Salvador, her mother's birth country. Of the many CARE projects she visited on that trip, one in particular stayed with her and inspired her to focus on maternal health. Christy returned home to New York City and gave birth to a healthy baby boy -- a beautiful, uncomplicated delivery. She continued to think about those women she had met -- young mothers who had much to fear, and whose birth experiences too often suffer complications.
