WASHINGTON, March 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Creigh Deeds, a Virginia state senator and former Democratic nominee for governor, will speak about mental health issues at a National Press Club Speakers luncheon on March 31.
Sen. Deeds, a Democrat, began his work on mental health after his son committed suicide last year after being denied inpatient psychiatric treatment. Deeds is pushing the Virginia Legislature to improve mental health care in the state.
A former county prosecutor authored a law allowing public access to the Virginia sex offender registry. He was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1991 and left the House in 2001 to join the state Senate. He was the Democratic nominee for governor in 2009.
The Press Club luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session, ending at 2 p.m. Tickets may be purchased by clicking here.
