The theme for Hamburg's opening event to celebrate the beginning of the European Green Capital 2011 was titled "Hamburg in Motion". At the weekend, climate and environmental protection was generated Hamburg-style on the "Sustainable Dance Floor" in front of the town hall. Following Stockholm in 2010, Hamburg was recently awarded the title "European Green Capital 2011" by the European Commission.
