VIDEO from Euroleague Available on thenewsmarket.com: Flashback of Nikos Zisis Player of Montepaschi Siena in the Montepaschi Siena - Efes Pilsen Game of the Week
NEW YORK, Feb. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- See video from Euroleague at:
Nikos Zisis of Montepaschi Siena has taken a unique path to his place among the Euroleague's finest point guards. First, as a teenager, Zisis had to choose between playing basketball or playing piano. But by 17, he was already making his Euroleague debut with AEK of Athens and raising the club's only Greek League trophy of the last 40 years. Next, Zisis switched positions, from shooting guard to fulltime point guard, and by age 21 was the Euroleague's second-best assist-maker. Soon, Zisis was helping Greece become European champion in 2005 and word silver medalist the next summer. His bold move to Benetton Treviso was threatened by two serious injuries, but they nonetheless won the Italian League together. Next, Zisis chose a backup role with CSKA Moscow that paid off with a jackpot when they won the 2008 Euroleague together. Still just 27, Zisis is now back as a starter and double-digit scorer as he tries to lead injury-plagued Montepaschi to the playoffs once again.
