VIDEO from Denmark Available on thenewsmarket.com: World Famous Danish Painters at Skagens Museum
NEW YORK, Nov. 19, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- See video from Denmark at:
With water on three sides, beautiful light and a thriving fishing culture, Skagen in Denmark attracted painters from all over Scandinavia. In the late nineteenth century, the small but distinguished group of Danish painters gathered in the small fishing village of Skagen on the very northern tip of Denmark. They came here to paint the local culture, a harsh and tough fishing culture.
The paintings that came out of the Skagen colony represented a revolution in Danish art. The strong light in Skagen made for bright and colorful paintings, and the realism in the paintings had not been seen before. Today, the paintings are world famous, but they are still hanging in Skagens Museum at the northern tip of Denmark. Available video includes general views of paintings and soundbites from Dorthe Sieben about the light in Skagen and the tough conditions for the fishermen.
