Victorian and Edwardian Jewelry Expert E. Ralph Morgan,G.G. Defines Surge of Demand for Fine Antique Gemstones and Jewelry
MANCHACA, Texas, Jan. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- When Ralph Morgan,G.G. decided to go into business as a gemstone expert in 1987, he had little idea that the older families of means sprinkled throughout our country had as few gemological resources to concrete, concise data as seemed evident at the time. Soon upon opening his business he discovered otherwise.
Today, few jewelers and gemological types have the store of knowledge he has gleaned over the past 25 years, having seen literally thousands of these older items of worth. In the period between 1880 and 1920 many of the fortunes from America's newly formed Industrial Revolution were being developed. Coupled with the fact that Great Britain had access to some of the prime diamond, sapphire, ruby and emerald sources within their realm of influence at that time. This combination of events made for an interesting time to purchase fine larger diamonds, fancy coloured diamond, ruby, sapphire, and emerald gemstones surfacing during that era. India was still producing the finest and most rare of sapphires from its Kashmir region. Burma and Sri Lanka were producing stores of the world's premier rubies and sapphires of the day. Some of the sources are depleted. Some no longer exist. Platinum was not even utilized in jewelry making prior to the late 1870's due to the fact bottled gas was not yet used which made the jeweler's torch able to metal and work the much higher melting point that platinum has over gold. During this time famous fine jewelry manufacturers made their debut such as the likes of Tiffany, Marcus & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier. These older pieces are now highly sought after for their quality of workmanship and the rarity of their gemstones.
Mr. Morgan has a portable gemological lab that he carries with him for his speaking engagements, charitable appraisal fundraising and estate evaluations throughout the United States and Europe. He is available for consultation and speaking engagements at 512-608-2524 or email at [email protected].
