ViaSat Exede Debuts First Virtually Unlimited Satellite Internet Service in the Lowcountry
Coastal Carolina Fair Showcases Exede High-Speed Internet
LADSON, S.C., Oct. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Along with an array of booths, bands, and bull riding, this year's Coastal Carolina Fair, which runs from Oct. 30 – Nov. 9, will showcase a first-of-its-kind high speed satellite internet plan, now available in the Lowcountry and other areas of South Carolina. The new Freedom Plan from Exede® Internet provides virtually unlimited data usage for communications, web browsing, and streaming media.
"Exede Internet reaches most of the state with high-speed service, which is a great advantage for many residents, especially those in rural and remote areas," said Akiem Barber, owner of Barber's Satellite Services, based in Columbia, S.C. "However, the data cap has been one of satellite internet's limitations. We're very excited about the introduction of this virtually unlimited Exede Internet plan here, which will meet our customers' needs for more data for communications and streaming."
Fair-goers are invited to visit the exhibit in the Commercial Exhibit Building, spin the prize wheel, take a photo with Brian the Alien, talk to an internet specialist, and try the Exede service on a large Windows 8 or Mac desktop, or on an iPad or Samsung tablet.
Barber also noted that, for the second consecutive year, Exede led all other internet services in delivering advertised speeds of 12 Mbps download speeds – about twice the speed of average DSL service and four times faster than average 3G cell service. The finding is described in the FCC 2014 Measuring Broadband America report, released in June. The report measures actual service performance of fixed broadband subscribers, and Exede service was found to deliver nearly 140 percent of its advertised upload and download speeds during peak periods.
"This is hard proof that our customers who sign up for Exede get what they pay for — and more," said Barber. "People talk about not being able to get good Internet around here, and I just tell them 'You can, it's here with Exede Internet!'"
A new Exede promotion is available to new subscribers in most of the Lowcountry, which allows them to get the Freedom plan for only $69.99 for the first six months. In other areas of South Carolina, a double data plan is available.
"Exede service has solved the frustrations of slow Internet, especially for residents and businesses in rural areas," said Barber. "As a local business serving this community for many years, I can tell you that Exede Internet is a major step forward from previous generations of satellite service."
Over the past two years, the Exede service network has grown from the original Exede Internet residential service to include a number of innovative services. Now the company also offers Exede Voice phone service to residential subscribers; Exede In the Air high-speed in-flight Internet for airline passengers on two major carriers; Exede Business for added speed and data tailored to business subscribers; and Exede Enterprise communications for live events, field operations, disaster response, and newsgathering.
ViaSat has also announced plans for another groundbreaking satellite, ViaSat-2, scheduled to launch in mid-2016. The launch is expected to facilitate a significant expansion of Exede services, capacity, speed, and coverage areas.
